AlertVIP Privacy Policy

AlertVIP ("we", "us", "our", or "the App") is a mobile application that monitors incoming notifications and delivers enhanced alerts for user-designated VIP contacts. This Privacy Policy describes how we collect, use, store, and protect your information when you use AlertVIP.
By downloading, installing, or using AlertVIP, you agree to this Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, please do not use the App.
1. Information We Collect
1.1 Data You Provide Directly
- VIP Contact Information: Names, phone numbers, email addresses, social handles, and custom keyword matchers (including include/exclude rules and regex patterns) that you enter or select from your device contacts when creating VIP entries.
- VIP Schedules: Per-VIP active hours windows you configure to control when alerts fire for each contact.
- App Preferences and Settings: Alert sound selections, vibration patterns, quiet hours schedules, snooze preferences, Do Not Disturb awareness settings, weekly summary preferences, and other configuration choices you make within the App.
1.2 Data Collected Automatically
- Notification Content: When the App's Notification Listener Service is active, the App reads the sender name, message text, subject line, and originating app of incoming notifications solely to determine whether an alert should be fired for a VIP contact. Notification content from non-VIP senders is immediately discarded and never stored.
- Alert History: For VIP-matched notifications only, the App records the VIP name, originating app, a brief message snippet, timestamp, alert type, and dismissal status. This data is stored locally on your device.
1.3 Data We Do NOT Collect
- We do not collect your location, IP address, device identifiers, advertising IDs, or analytics data.
- We do not collect or store the content of notifications from non-VIP contacts.
- We do not create user accounts or require login credentials.
- We do not use cookies, tracking pixels, or any web-based tracking technology.
- We do not use any third-party analytics, advertising, or tracking SDKs.
2. Device Permissions
AlertVIP requests the following device permissions. Each permission is used solely for the stated purpose:
- Notification Listener Access: To read incoming notifications and identify messages from your VIP contacts.
- Read Contacts: To let you select VIP contacts from your address book (read-only; contacts are not uploaded or stored beyond VIP entries you create).
- Display Over Other Apps (SYSTEM_ALERT_WINDOW): To show the full-screen alert overlay when a VIP notification arrives, even when the phone is locked or another app is in the foreground.
- Post Notifications: To display alert notifications.
- Read Phone State: To distinguish incoming from outgoing calls (so alerts only fire when a VIP calls you, not when you call them) and to automatically dismiss an active alert when you answer a phone call.
- Vibrate: To trigger vibration patterns for alerts.
- Modify Audio Settings: To temporarily override device volume for urgent alerts (premium feature).
- Wake Lock: To ensure alerts are delivered even when the screen is off.
- Use Full Screen Intent: To display the full-screen alert overlay on the lock screen when a VIP notification arrives.
- Schedule Exact Alarm / Use Exact Alarm: To fire snooze reminders at the precise time you set.
- Foreground Service (Media Playback): To continue playing the alert sound reliably while the alert screen is visible.
- Request Ignore Battery Optimizations: To prevent the system from killing the notification listener in the background, ensuring reliable alert delivery.
- Internet: For in-app purchase verification only; no user data is transmitted.
The App also uses the device torch/flashlight as a visual alert signal via the Android CameraManager API. No photos or video are captured, and no Camera permission is required.
3. How We Use Your Information
All data collected by AlertVIP is used exclusively to provide the App's core functionality:
- VIP Matching: Comparing incoming notification data (sender name, subject, message text) against your VIP contact list to determine whether to fire an alert.
- Alert Delivery: Playing sounds, triggering vibration, activating the torch, and displaying the alert screen.
- Alert History: Showing you a record of past VIP alerts within the App.
- Settings: Applying your preferred alert behavior, quiet hours, and snooze configuration.
- Quick Reply: When you compose a reply from the alert screen, the message text is passed directly to the originating app (e.g. WhatsApp, SMS) via the Android share system. AlertVIP does not store, log, or transmit the reply content.
- Home Screen Widget: Displaying your current VIP monitoring status and mute state. The widget reads only from local SharedPreferences on your device.
- Weekly Summary: Sending you an optional on-device notification summarizing your VIP alert activity for the past week. This is computed locally from your alert history and does not transmit any data.
- Backup and Restore: Exporting and importing your VIP list, alert history, and settings as a JSON file stored on your device or shared via a method you choose (premium feature).
4. Data Storage and Security
- Local Storage Only: All data -- VIP entries, alert history, and settings -- is stored exclusively on your device using the Android local database (Room) and SharedPreferences. No data is transmitted to or stored on any external server.
- Encryption: Data stored on your device benefits from your device's built-in encryption when you have a screen lock enabled.
- Backup Files: When you use the export/backup feature, the resulting file is saved to a location you choose on your device or shared via a method you select. We do not have access to these files.
5. Data Sharing and Third Parties
We do not share, sell, rent, trade, or otherwise disclose your personal data to any third party.
- AlertVIP does not contain any third-party advertising SDKs.
- AlertVIP does not contain any third-party analytics or tracking SDKs.
- AlertVIP does not transmit any user data off your device, with the sole exception of in-app purchase transactions processed by the Google Play Store, which are governed by Google's Privacy Policy (https://policies.google.com/privacy).
6. Data Retention and Deletion
- VIP Data: VIP entries are retained until you delete them individually or use the "Delete All Data" option in Settings.
- Alert History: Alert history is retained on your device (up to 500 entries) until you clear it via Settings or uninstall the App. You can clear all history at any time from Settings.
- Settings: App preferences are retained until you reset them, use "Delete All Data", or uninstall the App.
- Complete Deletion: Uninstalling AlertVIP permanently deletes all data associated with the App from your device. You can also delete all data from within the App via Settings > Delete All Data.
7. Children's Privacy
AlertVIP is not directed at children under the age of 13 (or the applicable age in your jurisdiction). We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided data through the App, please contact us so we can take appropriate action.
8. Your Rights and Choices
Because AlertVIP stores all data locally on your device, you have full control over your data at all times:
- Access: View your VIP list and alert history directly within the App.
- Modification: Edit or update any VIP entry at any time.
- Deletion: Delete individual VIPs, clear alert history, or delete all data from Settings.
- Portability: Export your data as a JSON file using the backup feature (premium).
- Permissions: Revoke any device permission at any time through your device's system settings. Note that revoking certain permissions will affect App functionality.
9. In-App Purchases
AlertVIP offers a one-time premium upgrade. Purchase transactions are processed entirely by the Google Play Store. We do not collect or store any payment information such as credit card numbers, billing addresses, or financial account details. Please refer to Google's Privacy Policy (https://policies.google.com/privacy) for information about how they handle purchase data.
10. Changes to This Privacy Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. If we make material changes, we will update the "Last Updated" date at the top of this page. We encourage you to review this Privacy Policy periodically. Your continued use of the App after changes are posted constitutes your acceptance of the updated policy.
